Job: HOD – Engineering

Scott Fleary Productions, one of London’s leading scenic construction companies, is looking to recruit a Head  of Department – Engineering.

The varied nature of projects undertaken by Scott Fleary, in theatre, television and live events, offer the right candidate a place to demonstrate their ability by leading a highly skilled and  experienced team in completing projects to time, target and budget.  

Job Purpose: 

To effectively manage the Engineering Department in the construction of scenery built in metal and associated materials, maintaining an overview of departmental project schedules, while ensuring the team’s growth and wellbeing. To ensure existing processes are adhered to, updating and improving these where  necessary. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • To lead the Engineering Department in accurately built scenery to complex drawings to time, ensuring quality of work. 
  • To effectively plan departmental schedule in coordination with Workshop Manager.
  • Proactive approach to and responsibility for departmental H&S and sustainability practices.
  • Ensure safe use and maintenance of all departmental equipment. 
  • Departmental cohesion and high staff morale. 
  • Oversight of departmental training, apprentices, work experience. 

The right candidate should display: 

  1. Scenic, architectural fabrication or other relevant industry experience with good fabrication skills in mig and tig is essential. Engineering NVQ and coded welding qualifications are preferred. 
  2. Ability to build accurate pieces from complex technical drawings and ensure the same in others.
  3. Extensive knowledge of materials and build techniques 
  4. Understanding of planning and scheduling.  
  5. The ability to prepare for site and to lead on-site build teams  
  6. Previous management experience. 
  7. Comprehensive understanding and proactive compliance with workshop H&S and PPE. H&S qualifications are a bonus. 
  8. Excellent and varied communication and inter-personal skills. 
  9. Proficiency with windows, google docs etc. 
  10. Team player, organised and calm under pressure, ability to prioritise.

Job: Scenic Carpentry Apprentice 

Scott Fleary Productions, one of London’s leading scenic construction companies, is looking for new talent and we are excited to announce that we currently have a Scenic Carpentry Apprenticeship open for application.

The varied nature of projects undertaken by Scott Fleary, in theatre, television and live events, offer the right candidate a place to demonstrate their carpentry potential by assisting in the accurate fabrication of scenery by following technical drawings, using associated hand tools, bench machinery, basic cnc operations and attending site to ‘fit-up’ the finished project. 

  • You will work towards a Level 3 Scenic Construction Technical Apprenticeship Qualification through Creative Alliance.
  • If you are aged 18 – 20, you will be paid £10.70 per hour which works out at £428 per week before tax.
  • If you are 21 or over, you will be paid £12.21 per hour which works out at £488.40 per week before tax.
  • You will receive a pay rise after successfully completing 12 months.
  • There will be the opportunity to work paid overtime.


Our workshops are based in Streatham Vale. 

On the odd occasion, you may be asked to attend work on site when we are installing scenery and other 3D projects.Address: Units 1- 4, Block A, Vale Industrial Park, 170 Rowan Road, London. SW16 5BN.

Our nearest station is Streatham Common.

This is a fixed term contract. We are looking to start the apprenticeships as soon you are able. The contract will run until 31 December 2027. You will get 22 days annual leave a year plus bank holidays.
