Scott Fleary was proud to play a key role in the delivery of the 2021 BBC Sport Wimbledon studio — a high-profile and technically ambitious project that brought together physical set building and virtual production in a unified design. As a trusted TV set construction company working on flagship national events, we were pleased to collaborate with BBC Sport and the wider creative team on this forward-thinking studio environment.

The hybrid studio combined traditional scenic elements with cutting-edge virtual production technology, making the most of a compact space. Designed by Toby Kalitowski and Jim Mann, the set featured a custom-built desk and real windows overlooking the courts, integrated with a virtual environment powered by Brainstorm’s InfinitySet and Unreal Engine. This combination created a seamless 360-degree experience — respecting Wimbledon’s visual heritage while introducing bespoke TV set design features like rotating glass panels and dynamic graphic headers.

Scott Fleary’s contribution focused on the physical fabrication and installation of the scenic elements. Our work helped maximise studio floor space — tripling usable area compared to previous iterations. This allowed for improved camera movement and crane access, enabling a more dynamic broadcast experience. As a London set company specialising in scenery construction for TV and live events, we’re experienced in building complex environments that support both creative vision and technical demands.

Working alongside the BBC Sport production team, with AV integration by MOOV and virtual tracking using the Mo-Sys StarTracker system, we helped deliver a solution that raised the bar for televised sporting coverage. The project demonstrated Scott Fleary’s capabilities in custom set building for live broadcast — blending scenic carpentry with advanced technology under tight schedules.

Whether for TV set construction, event scenery manufacture, or custom theatre set design, Scott Fleary continues to support designers, producers, and technical teams across the UK’s creative industries.
