Scott Fleary Productions was appointed by TNT Sports and Warner Bros. Discovery to deliver the complete scenic build for their international broadcast of Roland Garros 2025, working to set designer Toby Kalitowski’s vision for a purpose-built production environment at Stade Roland Garros.
Originally brought on to construct the UK studio, the scope grew considerably as the project developed. By completion, the team had completely clad externally/internally and fitted out the bare large modular truss pavilion in the Plaza de Mesquitère, housing both UK and US studio spaces, alongside a late-addition elevated outdoor platform offering direct views of the courts. All of it was delivered within a five-week build window.
The Plaza de Mesquitère is Roland Garros’ equivalent of Wimbledon’s Henman Hill, the tournament’s primary fan gathering area, and TNT Sports deliberately placed its studio right in the middle of it. Positioning the build there gave the coverage an authenticity that a purpose-built interior studio never could, though it also brought real construction constraints. Trees and light poles within the footprint required multiple rounds of design revision before a workable solution emerged, ultimately resulting in a structure that incorporated those natural elements rather than working around them.
The pavilion itself demanded advanced weatherproofing and wind-load reinforcement, with dimensional tolerances tight enough to accommodate the camera and lighting infrastructure already planned for the build. Inside, two raised studio platforms were fitted with acoustic lining, broadcast flooring and custom cladding. The outdoor cantilever structure incorporated anti-slip decking and integrated anchor points for the 30-foot jib that would later provide sweeping scenic coverage during broadcast.
Glass panels in the studio design could be removed in good weather, opening the space directly into the surrounding fan zone. A movable LED wall backdrop and a central stand-up area with a sizable LED screen completed the interior, all designed with augmented reality integration in mind. Pre-installed LED surrounds and scenic recesses were developed in collaboration with WBD’s creative team, supporting the virtual environment that TNT Sports built using Black Shark technology, Pixotope and Unreal Engine.
Coordinating across time zones with the US team and responding to design revisions that continued well into the build phase, the project tested Scott Fleary’s full range of production management capabilities. The build was delivered on time and to specification, and Roland Garros 2025 went on to become one of TNT’s most successful sports events to date, drawing over 620 million views across Europe and 2.6 million unique viewers in the US.
